I guess it’s no secret that there are some accents out there that when they traverse the English language will unwittingly interchange their V’s and W’s.

But this, to my knowledge, was merely an issue of pronunciation and not one of spelling. Having different phonics programmed in for release upon the need to express a specific sound.

Much to my delight, I have now discovered this phenomenon immortalised in signage.

As Salaamu ‘Alaykum Wa Rahmatullah Akhi

Insha’Allah this finds you upon peaks of iman and an excellent disposition.

AlHamdulillah, I came across your blog today, and read some of both your recent and old posts – some really cool, and witty stuff! AlHamdulillah.

Also, I read your story; how you came to Islam. SubhanAllah, its a very emotional story, and I pray that Allah swt compensate you with the best in the Dhunya and Akhirah, for all your sacrifices. Ameen.

Also, Akhi, through reading your posts, it became apparent that you’re living in the the blesed turfs of Saudi! SubhanAllah.

Are you a teacher by profession? What do you teach?

How did you get the job in Saudi?

I would really appreciate a response from you, as I know some who really would like something in that line of work. And to know how to get about it, would be very beneficial, b’ithnillah.

    JazakAllahu khayran

  2. wa ‘alaykum salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

Thank you for your kind comments.

I’ve been asked about “how to get out here” a few times, so it’d probably be a good idea for me to compile some of my thoughts on that into a lengthy post.

It’s the weekend here (as of this evening), so insha‘ Allah, I’ll set some time aside and get something down on the teaching door into Saudi and post it later.

    JazakAllahu khayran, for your efforts.

May Allah swt, keeps us sincere in our intentions.

Look forward to the post, insha’Allah

I think you spelt ‘pronunciation’ wrong 🙂

    • 🙂

You should be named Spelling Nazi rather than Grammar Nazi, however…

      From the Oxford English Dictionary:

The word pronunciation is often pronounced, by analogy with pronounce, as if the second syllable rhymed with bounce. This is not correct in standard English: the second syllable should rhyme with dunce. The correct spelling is pronunciation, not pronounciation.

    As Salaamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullah,

    Hope you are well insha’Allah

Akhi, when can we expect something up, no the Saudi hijrah? b’itnillah

    • wa ‘alaykum salam wa rahmatullah,

I apologise for the delay to you and any others that are waiting for it. I haven’t forgotten about it, I’ve just been terribly busy these last weeks.

      Soon, insha’ Allah.
